Saturday, November 26
Burnley vs. Manchester City – 7:30 AM ET
Manchester City are proud owners of the best road record in the league. They’ve gone 5-0-1 in six games, with 15 goals scored and just six conceded. However, City will be coming off a midweek trip to Germany, which could take its toll. The last two games they’ve played after a Champions League game have resulted in the total going under 3.0 goals.
Meanwhile, they’re set to visit Burnley, which will make things as tough as possible for the Citizens. Of the Clarets’ seven home games, five have been under 3.0 goals.
Writer’s Prediction: Burnley give it a go, but Manchester City still win, 2-0. Take the total to go under 3.0 goals, though, for added value.
Hull City vs. West Bromwich Albion – 10:00 AM ET
It’s just so hard to trust Hull right now, even at home. The Tigers have scored just three goals in their last six games, and top scorer Abel Hernandez is still out with a groin injury. On the other side, West Brom have won two in a row, and are coming off a 4-0 blitzing of Burnley.
As improbable as it would be to think of West Brom on a three-game win streak, the Baggies look like the only realistic winners of this game, if indeed there is a winner.
Writer’s Prediction: West Brom (+137) win their third in a row, 2-0.
Leicester City vs. Middlesbrough – 10:00 AM ET
No one can blame Leicester for prioritizing the Champions League this season, but now that they’ve qualified for the round of 16, it’s high time for them to re-focus on the league. The defending champs are now down to 14th ahead of their visit to Middlesbrough, who are right below them but are putting up some decent performances.
It’s tough to choose between the two teams at the moment, and a draw might be the most likely result. However, the totals might be the more intriguing play. Leicester’s six home games have only resulted in 13 total goals thus far, while Boro’s six road games have seen just 11 goals.
Furthermore, the total has not exceeded two goals in Boro’s last six matches, which include games against the high-scoring attacks of Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea.
Writer’s Prediction: This is likely a low-scoring matchup, with the total going under 2.5 goals.
Liverpool vs. Sunderland – 10:00 AM ET
The post-international break Liverpool letdown was pretty much expected. They were on the road against a tough Southampton team, and it was also the first time they were playing in first place. Well, they’re out of first this week, they’ll be back at home, and they’ll be facing second-from-bottom Sunderland. That’s all good news for the Reds.
Sunderland are starting to perk up with back-to-back wins, though. Obviously, there’s a substantial step up from Bournemouth and Hull to Liverpool, but the Black Cats have found confidence which will lift their spirits for their visit to Anfield.
Writer’s Prediction: Sunderland is improved, and puts up a fight at Anfield. There’s value in the Black Cats on the Asian handicap at +2, +2.5 goals (-115).
Swansea City vs. Crystal Palace – 10:00 AM ET
This game is a must-win for both clubs. Palace haven’t won for two months now, while Swansea haven’t won since the first week of the season. Swansea showed some fight against Everton last time out, but they just can’t score. They’ve scored more than one goal just twice all year.
Palace may have a leaky defense, but they are still the much more reliable team in terms of putting the ball in the back of the net.
Writer’s Prediction: Palace (+175) gets a big away win, 2-1, over Swansea.
Chelsea vs. Tottenham Hotspur – 12:30 PM ET
Spurs are still not right. They should’ve lost last weekend to West Ham, and were knocked out of the Champions League in midweek with a loss to Monaco. They’re lack of form, coupled with the journey back to France will put them at quite the disadvantage as they enter the fortress that is Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have been immense at home, with five wins in six and 18 goals scored against just three conceded – both best in the league. They’ve won their last three home games – against good teams in Leicester, Man United, and Everton – by a combined score of 13-0.
The Blues are in-form, well-rested, and they have an incredible record against Spurs in the top flight of English football. Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 29 home games against Tottenham.
Writer’s Prediction: Chelsea (-150) extend their winning run with a 2-0 win over Spurs.
Sunday, November 27
Watford vs. Stoke City – 7:00 AM ET
Watford are up to the dizzying heights of 8th-place after a 2-1 home win over Leicester. The Hornets have now gone unbeaten (3-1-0) in their last four games at Vicarage Road. They face a tough test with the visit of Stoke, though. The Potters make things tough for their opponents away from home and turn those matches into low-scoring affairs. Five of their six road games this season have seen two goals or fewer.
Writer’s Prediction: Watford and Stoke play out a low-scoring affair that goes under 2.5 goals.
Arsenal vs. Bournemouth – 9:15 AM ET
Arsenal are hardly at their best at the moment. They’ve won just once in their last four league games, and that one win was against Sunderland. They will also be coming off a tough 2-2 draw against PSG in the Champions League during midweek. The Gunners have scored just two goals in their last three league games after a Champions League fixture.
This should be a fine spot for Bournemouth. The Cherries finally got back on track with a 1-0 road win against Stoke, their first away win of the season. Although it’ll be tough to make it two in a row at the Emirates, the Cherries do have the quality to remain competitive against the potentially diminished Gunners.
Writer’s Prediction: With Arsenal struggling, Bournemouth has a good chance to keep it close. Take the Cherries to cover +1.5 (-125) goals on the Asian handicap.
Manchester United vs. West Ham United – 11:30 AM ET
Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United look like they’re finally turning a corner. Their switch to a 4-3-3 in their last two games has yielded three fine performances and really should’ve yielded three wins if not for a late Arsenal equalizer. This matchup with West Ham will be the perfect opportunity for them to continue their mini-resurgence.
The Hammers’ defense just can’t shut the door on anyone, especially away from home. They’ve conceded at least two goals in five of their six road games this season, and have also lost five of those six games.
Writer’s Prediction: West Ham’s porous defense almost guarantees a fair share of goals. Take the total to go over 2.5 goals.
Southampton vs. Everton – 11:30 AM ET
Everton are in free-fall at the moment. The Toffees have won just once in their last seven league games (1-3-3) and couldn’t even beat a struggling Swansea at home. However, Southampton is nowhere near a lock to capitalize on Everton’s struggles. Saints haven’t even scored in their last two home games.
The totals could be the much smarter play. Southampton will be coming off Europa League duty in midweek, which usually means few goals in the next game. The total has gone under 2.5 goals in their four games after an European assignment.
Writer’s Prediction: Southampton and Everton cancel each other out as the total goes under 2.5 goals.
