2016 Heisman Futures Picks and Predictions

Favorites: Deshaun Watson, Christian McCaffrey

250x130-250FREE-6-16-16

Watson (+350) attracted a world of attention last season with his dazzling display of mobility and escape maneuvering in the pocket while quarterbacking for a Clemson team that made it to the national title game. The dual-threat quarterback passed for 4,104 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2015 and rushed for 1,105 yards to go with 12 scores. With enough offensive talent surrounding him again this season, expect Watson, who finished third in Heisman balloting last year, to be in the award discussions throughout the season.

McCaffrey, meanwhile, broke the internet and the Rose Bowl record with an impeccable performance in last January’s Big Ten-Pac 12 showdown in Pasadena, when he finished the game against Iowa with 368 all-purpose yards. That was a microcosm of McCaffrey’s season-long dominance in 2015, in which he also broke the FBS single-season records for rushing yards and receiving yards. He also averaged 28.9 yards per kick return. McCaffrey enters the 2016 season with odds of +450 to take home the Heisman Trophy.

High Value: Nick Chubb

You may remember Chubb for two reasons.  One is for his explosive 2014 campaign in which he manufactured 1,547 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns. The other probably was for the nasty knee injury people witnessed Chubb suffer on national TV last October. Chubb missed the rest of the season because of that, which explains why he’s some kind of a forgotten man this year. Don’t sleep on Chubb, though, as he could return to the 2014 form t and make his +2,500 odds to win the Heisman Trophy look like bargain come ballot-time.

Long Shot: Corey Clement

Like Chubb, Clement is eager to move on following a forgettable 2015 season. Clement was bugged with injuries last year that limited him to just four games, rushing for only 221 yards and five touchdowns. This year is Clement’s last in Madison and the Badgers are hoping the running back will finally have that fantastic campaign out from him that they’ve been waiting for since Clement inherited the top backfield chores from Melvin Gordon.  Clement is +5,000 to win the Heisman.
