2016 RBC Heritage Long Shots and Best Value Predictions

Graeme McDowell

Graeme McDowell missed the cut at Augusta last weekend in the Masters Tournament, but he has a grand chance to make up for the disappointing performance this time around at the Harbour Town Golf Links. McDowell already has a title from the RBC Heritage in 2013. He finished with a nine-under 275 and won the title in a playoff against Webb Simpson.

Driving will be a key for McDowell. He’s ranked ninth on tour with a 70.81 percent driving accuracy. Getting the ball near the hole is of utmost importance considering his putting ability. He’s 153rd in strokes gained: putting (-.216), but is first in putting from three feet and third from 10 feet. Getting to those critical distances should help McDowell have a solid run at the RBC Heritage.

Davis Love III

Davis Love III looks on after teeing off at Pebble Beach

Davis Love III is a sentimental pick at the RBC Heritage. Despite failing to place in the top 40 in his last six tournaments, he still has a pretty good shot (albeit a long one) to win this tournament. Love is no stranger to the Harbour Town Golf Links. He’s won this tournament a grand total of five times in his career.

Those shaking their heads at Love’s chances haven’t considered that he still has some magic in his game. Despite being already 51 years old, Love aced the par-3 16th at Augusta. Can he do the same at the RBC Heritage? Only time will tell, but he has plenty of value as a multiple-time champion.

Bryson DeChambeau

Super prospect Bryson DeChambeau makes his pro debut at the RBC Heritage. He hasn’t had plenty of pro experience, but this guy is used to winning. He won the NCAA championship last spring and has been a terrific player as an amateur. He joined Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Ryan Moore as the only players to win the NCAA and U.S. Amateur titles in the same year, which means he’s in good company.

DeChambeau has had some good results as he accepted several invitations to play in pro events around the world. He tied for second in the Australian Masters; led the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship with a first-round 64; tied for 18th in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic by finishing with three scores in the 60s; and shot a 66 in the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational to tie for 18th.

DeChambeau is a long shot to win this tournament, but he’s one that warrants your attention.
