Bubba Watson (+1,200)

250x130-250FREE-6-16-16

As the only top-10 golfer in this week’s field, World No. 6 Bubba Watson has a lot more going for him than just being the most-esteemed participant at River Highlands. The 37-year-old is not only the reigning Travelers Championship champion, he’s also one of just seven golfers to win the tournament on multiple occasions, with his other win having been attained back in 2010.

Even though Bubba has not been as active or as exemplary since winning the Northern Trust Open this February, many pundits strongly believe that this week’s tournament is his to lose as he aims to become the first player to win consecutive Travelers Championship titles since Phil Mickelson (2001-02).

Patrick Reed (+1,800)

Patrick Reed will be one of four golfers this week along with Watson that will represent the United States at the Olympics in Brazil. River Highlands will be a fine tune-up match prior to international play for the Texan, who is coming off back-to-back top-15 finishes – both from major tournaments all the more (T12 at British Open and T13 at the PGA Championship).

Reed’s fantastic form of late is no anomaly, as he has a couple of runner-up finishes this season as well. Perhaps Hartford is where the 20th-ranked golfer will win his first event since January of last year.

Sleepers

Zach Johnson (+1,800)

Another golfer who has been very consistent this 2016 is Zach Johnson. The 18-year pro had four-straight top-20 finishes prior to finishing tied for 33rd at the PGA Championship this past week.

Johnson’s constantly under our own radar given how he delivers well, but having only five top-10 finishes for the season is what keeps him as a solid sleeper in our eyes rather than a true favorite. Nevertheless, the two-time major tournament winner is as experienced and dependable as they come, making him another worthy wagering option this week.

Jon Rahm 2016 Travelers Championship

Jon Rahm (+2,200)

Jon Rahm, the first and only two-time Ben Hogan Award-winner, has certainly made quite a splash in his professional debut this year.

The Arizona State product may have skipped out on the action in Baltusrol this past week, but his results prior to the last major of the year are enough proof that he’ll be a hot ticket to follow in the years to come. Rahm has three top-10 finishes after participating in just six PGA Tour tournaments this season, with his latest outing being his best; tied for runner-up at the recently-concluded RBC Canadian Open.

If you enjoy banking on fresh, amazing talent, look no further than the 21-year-old Spaniard to possibly provide a nice surprise this week by winning his maiden professional tournament in such a short amount of time in the big leagues.

Long Shot

Kevin Streelman (+6,000)

It wasn’t that long ago when Kevin Streelman won the 2014 edition of the Travelers Championship. For Streeleman, though, that win may feel like eons because he has not had a PGA Tour victory since then.

Making matters worse, the 37-year-old veteran has a total of just four top-10 finishes since that win a couple of years ago, and he’s even been cut from the last two tournaments to date. With that being said, we really should be more cautious in picking previous tournament champions that have lost their edge like Streelman.

Writer’s Prediction

Patrick Reed (+1,800) finally earns his first victory of 2016.
