Betting on the TCU Horned Frogs (19-14, 6-12 Big 12)
TCU shocked the college basketball world last night – including themselves, probably – when they took down Kansas, 85-82. Vladimir Brodziansky didn’t have a good night shooting the ball (3-for-12), but two of his co-starters picked up the slack by filling up the stat sheet.
Kenrich Williams, who had four straight double-doubles prior to the contest, recorded an all-around performance of 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals. The team’s main facilitator, meanwhile, Alex Robinson, joined in and scored 13 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and five steals.
Tonight’s tournament semis will also be a tie-breaker for the team’s season series with Iowa State, as they split their two previous meetings. Brodziansky had a subpar outing in their most recent encounter, but still led the team in points and rebounds for the series, with 18 points and 10.5 rebounds on 68.1 percent shooting. He’ll look to continue being as such, although Williams’s great showing the past couple of games should also be noted.
The Horned Frogs averaged 77.5 points and shot 55 percent from the field in their pair of battles with the Cyclones. They’ll also enter as winners of back-to-back after losing seven straight (2-7 SU and 3-6 ATS in their last nine).
Betting on the Iowa State Cyclones (21-12, 12-6 Big 12)
After a mediocre outing against the Mountaineers that had them snapping a six-game winning streak, the Cyclones got back on the winning column last night by kicking the Cowboys out of the Big 12 tournament, 92-83. It was their eighth game with 90 or more points and 16th game with 10 or more threes this season.
Monte Morris, as usual, led the way, as he was just one dime shy of a triple-double – 21 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists (also had two steals and two blocks).
He’s not alone in piling up stats, though. Deontre Burton had 17 points and 10 boards, while Nazareth Mitrou-Long and Matt Thomas combined for six of the team’s 12 treys for the contest.
In the said games versus the Horned Frogs, Morris (13.5 PPG, 9.5 APG) and Mitrou-Long (22 PPG, five 3s per game) were the main guys on offense, and they should be able to continue doing what they do.
Iowa State is averaging 80.4 points and 9.9 threes per game on 46.2 percent shooting this season, and it was identical to what they put up in the two prior matching ups with TCU.
The Cyclones are 7-1 in their last eight games (5-2 ATS).
Writer’s Prediction
TCU escapes with another upset win, 78-76.
