1. Antonio Brown
2016 Stats: 106 receptions | 1,284 receiving yards | 12 touchdowns
2016 Fantasy Points: 307.3 (No. 1 WR)
2017 Projected Fantasy Points: 302.2
If you are playing on a PPR (points per reception) league, you really can’t go wrong on Antonio Brown. He is sure to haul in catch after catch, and his productivity with Ben Roethlisberger is arguably the best in the league. Although his speed or strength are not exactly up to par with the other guys on this list, he makes up for it with his elite football IQ and great hands.
2. Julio Jones
2016 Stats: 83 receptions | 1,409 receiving yards | 6 touchdowns
2016 Fantasy Points: 259.9 (No. 6 WR)
2017 Projected Fantasy Points: 284.6
The matchup problems of all matchup problems – that’s what Julio Jones is to almost every defender in the league. He is one of the few receivers today – or in recent memory – that has clear abilities to outmuscle, outrun, and outjump everyone on the field. His tandem with Matt Ryan is as electric as any of its counterparts, and it can give the Brown-Roethlisberger connection a great run for their money.
3. Jordy Nelson
2016 Stats: 97 receptions | 1,257 receiving yards | 14 touchdowns (led the league)
2016 Fantasy Points: 304.7 (No. 2 WR)
2017 Projected Fantasy Points: 278.4
“White Lightning” is another wideout who has tremendous partnership with his QB, which has its own uniqueness and appeal because that signal-caller is Aaron Rodgers, one of the most prolific passers ever. It also goes beyond that, since Nelson, despite being under an offensive scheme that’s generous to 3-5 receivers, has been Rodgers’s most consistent target.
He netted over 1,500 receiving yards in 2014, tore his ACL and sat out the entire 2015 season, and then came back last year to post 1,200-plus yards and also lead the league in TD grabs.
4. Odell Beckham Jr.
2016 Stats: 101 receptions | 1,367 receiving yards | 10 touchdowns
2016 Fantasy Points: 296.6 (No. 4 WR)
2017 Projected Fantasy Points: 276.6
Odell Beckham Jr.’s elite-level production last season was the lone bright spot in the New York Giants’ poor offensive campaign (25th in total yardage), so now that he has new partners in proven veteran Brandon Marshall and speedy, pass-catching, rookie tight end Evan Engram to take off some of the pressure, it will be intriguing how high his numbers could be.
His tandem with Eli Manning isn’t as proven as the other duos in the NFL, but they’re definitely getting there.
5. AJ Green
2016 Stats: 64 receptions | 954 receiving yards | 4 touchdowns
2016 Fantasy Points: 186.4 (No. 34 WR)
2017 Projected Fantasy Points: 273.3
Despite another injury-plagued year for AJ Green, experts still project him as the potential fifth-highest scoring receiver by 2017 season’s end, which tells you a lot about his talent and productivity.
When healthy, this man is easily one of the most dynamic wideouts in the game. Prior to last season, he was averaging 83 receptions, 1,234 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns per season.
He will have a new key partner in crime in the form of rookie John Ross, whose Olympic sprinter-like speed set the new 40-yard dash record at the NFL combine last April (4.22). Expect his presence to create more scoring opportunities for Green.
