2020 World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship Purse and Prize Money Breakdown

The 21st tournament in the World Golf Championships history will be played starting this week down in the beautiful country of Mexico, where some of the best golfers from all over the planet will converge and compete for the prestigious honor of becoming the WGC-Mexico Championship winner. Trophies aside, it’s also the money that’s drawing the golfers’ attention. A total of $10.5 million will be scattered around in New Mexico for this tournament, with the winner, of course, getting the biggest share. Among the players expected to be part of the WGC-Mexico Championship Field are Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, and last year’s winner, Dustin Johnson.

Players from the European Tour, Japan Golf Tour, PGA Tour of Australasia, and Asian Tour are also invited to play at the WGC-Mexico, provided that they meet the qualifications, mostly in terms of their rankings in the respective main circuit they are playing in.

This year, the total purse will be at its highest ever and so will the winner’s share be. The total money in the pot is $10.5 million with the winner set to pocket $1.785 million. Last year, Johnson won his third WGC-Mexico Championship title, cashing in $1.745 million. Johnson has won the tournament three times (2015, 2017, 2019). Woods has the all-time record for most WGC-Mexico Championship titles ever with seven. In addition to his 1999 win, Woods also came out on top in 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2013.
