With Los Angeles’ beautiful people, gorgeous weather and great Trojans football, students attending USC probably don’t need any additional excuses to cut class every now and then. In fact, it’s a time honored tradition to get out and support your team wearing your school’s colors… especially when their schedule gets a little hairy.
Here are 5 games USC Trojans fans won’t want to miss:
1. October 19 – @ Notre Dame
USC fans, along with the rest of America’s football-viewing public, definitely have the 19th October circled in their calendars, when Notre Dame and USC once again meet for the greatest intersectional rivalry in college football. Even though USC is 9-2 against Notre Dame (going back to 2002), the Fighting Irish have possession of the Jeweled Shillelagh after defeating the Trojans 22-13 en route to their national championship game appearance last season.
2. November 1 @ Oregon State
USC owns the 9th longest winning streak in college football history against a single opponent. It’s Oregon State who they’ve defeated 26 consecutive times from 1968-1999. But in their last meeting in 2010, the Beavers exacted some sweet revenge for the decades of torment when they spanked USC 36-7. This season, the Trojans get their first shot at retribution.
3. November 9 – @ California
Trojans fans who love to see their team dominate should definitely cut class for the game against Cal – it’s as close to a sure win as there is in the USC football schedule. The Trojans have won the past 9 meetings against their interstate rivals, including last year’s 27-9 beatdown.
4. November 16 – Stanford
Will this be the year the Cardinal Curse is broken? USC is a weak 1-5 against their California neighbors since 2007, when Jim Harbaugh turned Stanford’s fortunes around. But even without Harbaugh and Andrew Luck, Stanford still conspired to beat the then-No. 2 ranked Trojans 21-14 last year. Maybe the change at quarterback will do the trick, as former USC starter Matt Barkley went 0-4 against the Cardinal in his otherwise successful college career.
5. November 30 – UCLA
Bragging rights will once again be up for grabs when crosstown rivals USC and UCLA do battle in the season finale. After two decades of USC dominance, UCLA finally reclaimed the Victory Bell after its 38-28 win over the Trojans last season. However, Jim Mora Jr. will need a couple more wins to overturn USC’s 11-2 record over the Bruins since the turn of the century.
