Betting on the Kansas City Royals (+150)
The Kansas City Royals had their three-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night with a 5-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox. The defending champions simply had no answer for David Price who allowed just two runs over 7.1 innings pitched. With the defeat, the Royals dropped back to an even .500 (20-20) in the AL Central standings.
The Royals will look to return to the win column when they lock horns with the White Sox in the first game of their three-game set tonight. Starting for Kansas City this evening is Dillon Gee (0-1, 3.12 ERA). The right-hander failed to make it out of the sixth inning in Saturday’s 5-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves, surrendering three runs on six hits over 5.1 innings. Gee, who was making his first start of the season in that game, had previously pitched 20.2 innings out of the bullpen and recorded a 2.61 ERA during that span.
With Gee struggling of late, the onus is on the Kansas City hitters to provide some much-needed run support tonight. Expected to lead the Royals’ offense tonight is Eric Hosmer. He’s hitting .375 with two home runs and five RBI in his last five games at U.S. Cellular Field, where the Royals have won 21 of their last 28 outings. Hosmer is 10-of-50 (.200) lifetime against Chicago starter Jose Quintana with two homers and 10 RBIs.
The Royals are 3-7 in their last 10 road games. They are priced at +1,200 to win the American League pennant this year.
Betting on the Chicago White Sox (-170)
The Chicago White Sox finally snapped their four-game losing streak with a narrow 2-1 victory against the Houston Astros on Thursday night. Chris Sale was simply sensational for the White Sox, allowing just one run on four hits in his third complete game of the season. With the victory, Sale became the first major league pitcher since 2008 to win his first nine starts.
The White Sox will look to keep the momentum going when they face the Kansas City Royals in their series opener tonight. Starting for Chicago in this ballgame is Jose Quintana (5-2, 1.54 ERA). The left-hander provided a good outing for the White Sox in his last start, allowing just two runs over 6.2 innings in a 2-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. Quintana has been in excellent form to begin the season as he has not allowed more than two runs in each of his first eight starts.
Quintana can’t do it all alone, though, and he needs the White Sox hitters to contribute on the offensive end as well. Expected to lead Chicago in that department tonight are Adam Eaton and Jimmy Rollins. Eaton leads the White Sox not only in batting average (.310), but also in on-base percentage (.402) and hits (49) this season. Rollins, on the other hand, is 14-of-31 (.452) in his career against Kansas City starter Dillon Gee with two homers and five RBIs. He went 1-of-3 in the win against the Astros last night.
The White Sox are 4-2 in their last six home games. They are pegged at +1,000 to win the World Series this year.
