Offensive Edge – Los Angeles Galaxy (+175)
L.A. has the undoubted edge in terms of offense. The Galaxy are the leading scorers in MLS on a per game basis with 30 goals in just 17 games. Giovani dos Santos has had a very good season to date with seven goals, while Robbie Keane – fresh off international duty with Ireland – scored immediately upon his return to the team in a 2-0 win over Vancouver.
On the other side, the Sounders are comfortably the worst scoring team in the league, with just 14 goals in 16 games. With Clint Dempsey still recovering from Copa America duty, Jordan Morris is the only legitimate goalscoring threat on the team. He’s scored just two goals since the first week of May, and the team has been shut out in four of its last six MLS games.
However, it should be noted that of the Galaxy’s 30 goals, only 11 have come away from home. That’s a big factor why they have won just once in eight away games so far, and are winless in their last five (three draws, two losses).
Defensive Edge – Los Angeles Galaxy (+175)
Apart from being an offensive juggernaut, the Galaxy are also one of the top defensive teams in the Western Conference. They’ve conceded just 18 goals all season. However, they will be without defensive midfielder Nigel de Jong, who saw a straight red card in their last match against Vancouver.
The Sounders’ defense hasn’t necessarily been bad – they’ve conceded just 20 goals – but due to their offense’s struggles, they don’t have much margin for error. They’ve lost five of their last six games, giving up two goals in four of those losses.
Writer’s Prediction: The Galaxy (+175) grab a rare road win over the Seattle Sounders.
