2016 Oklahoma Sooners Football Preview
Team Strengths
Expect the Oklahoma Sooners, who are solidly priced at +1,200 to win it all this season, to thrive on offense once again. They ranked fourth in the country in scoring (43.5 points), seventh in total yards (530.0 per game), and 22nd in rushing (222.1) last year. Those numbers should continue to stay relatively the same or probably better with Heisman Trophy candidate Baker Mayfield (+1,200) behind center.Mayfield left many opposing teams at an impasse in the previous season, where he delivered eye-popping figures of 3,700 passing yards with 36 touchdowns. He also added 405 rushing yards and seven scores, showcasing his ability to run with the ball.
Speaking of running with the ball, the Sooners can also look forward to their dynamic running back duo of Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon to have another sensational campaign. The two rumbled for 2,102 yards and 23 touchdowns combined in 2015, but Perine, in particular, is primed to have a better season as he’s attractively pegged at +2,500 to win college football’s highest individual award.
Team Weaknesses
Yes, scoring won’t be a problem for the Sooners, but it’s the opposite when talking about the other side of the field. There’s a pretty big hole on their defense right now with the departures of end Charles Tapper, linebackers Eric Striker and Dominique Alexander and cornerback Zack Sanchez.
That being the case, it’s up to the likes of Charles Walker, Jordan Evans, Ahmad Thomas and Jordan Thomas, who were all good enough to receive considerations in the All-Big 12 second team last year, to step their game up and become the new defensive leaders for the Sooners. But if not, don’t expect them to succeed in retaining the Big 12 title this upcoming season.

Writer’s Prediction
Oklahoma (+1,200) puts on another great season with a 10-2 overall record, good for a second-consecutive Big 12 championship. However, they fail to qualify for a spot in the College Football Playoffs.
