Betting on the New York Jets (+8)
What is happening to Ryan Sixpatrick? I mean Ryan Pickspatrick. No.. Wait. I got this… Ryan Fitzpatrick. There you go. The QB has now thrown a grand total of NINE interceptions in his past two games – six to the Chiefs and three to the Seahawks. Granted, it’s against two great defenses, but still, NINE? Good Lord. Someone tell him he’s trying to break the wrong record.
In all seriousness, though, Fitzpatrick can throw well, he just has to be smarter. He hasn’t lost the trust of his teammates, especially number one receiver Brandon Marshall, so that’s good.
As they face the Pittsburgh Steelers this coming week, the QB may want to hand the ball more to Matt Forte, Jets’ premier back. The disparity between the number of throws and carries is huge – 85 to 29. The 30-year-old may have lost a little edge and athleticism, but he can still produce a valuable run game, just look at how he sliced through the Bills D in Week 2 (100 yards, three TDs).
The Jets’ defense is average in defending the pass (288 yards per game), but they are doing well on the ground, limiting all previous four opponents to under 86 rushing yards (70 yards per game). For them to win on Week 5, they have to at least maintain those numbers and get to the quarterback quick.
The Jets are 5-5 SU (4-4-2 ATS) in their last 10 games on the road
Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (-8)
That 34-3 loss to rookie quarterback Carson Wentz and the Eagles in Week 3 must have really angered the Steelers. They showed up like crazed dogs in Week 4 and piled up points on the Chiefs fast, scoring the first 36 points, and ending it with a 43-14 rout.
It’s a good feeling as they enter this week’s second straight home game. With QB Ben Roethlisberger coming off a game where he passed for five easy touchdowns, he’ll be in an even better mood to sling the ball. Expect Antonio Brown, one of the best and most prolific receivers in the past four years, and Sammie Coates, who has an NFL-high five 40-plus yard receptions this season, to be recipients of numerous heaves.
Big Ben has thrown for 300-plus yards and three TDs in three of his four games this season.
Pittsburgh’s ground attack will also be more potent. The Jets’ priamary and secondary will be tested by RB LeVeon Bell and his quest to deliver a sequel to his strong 144-yard performance this past Sunday.
As for the defense, although they haven’t been as disruptive this season (only two INTs and five sacks), they are probably licking their chops after seeing Ryan Fitzpatrick’s recent games.
The Steelers have won six straight games at Heinz Field (4-1-1 ATS)
Writer’s Prediction
Pittsburgh (-8) wins, 28-20.
