Betting on the Arizona State Sun Devils (+13.5)

There is a state of uncertainty surrounding the Sun Devils’ quarterback position. Starter Manny Wilkins is being bugged by a knee injury and he remains questionable to play this Saturday against Colorado. His main replacement in Brady White is lost for the year with a foot injury.

Third-string QB and true freshman Dillon Sterling-Cole is the only healthy option left for the Sun Devils but with a pivotal matchup with Colorado awaiting them in Week 7, the Sun Devils may be forced to roll with a less-than-100 percent Wilkins under center.

In any case, the Sun Devils will have skilled playmakers downfield for the chosen quarterback to rely on. Wideout Tim White for example is fifth in the conference with 71.3 receiving yards per game. A possible absence by Wilkins should also prompt the Sun Devils’ backfield to ratchet up their production. Ranked sixth in the Pac-12 with 183.3 rushing yards per game, the Sun Devils were only able to muster 34 rushing yards in their 23-20 win over UCLA last Saturday.

Arizona State is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 games overall.

Betting on the Colorado Buffaloes (-13.5)

Like the Sun Devils, the Buffaloes have a quarterback quandary to deal with. Steven Montez started for Colorado in the 21-17 loss to USC last week, but was replaced by Sefo Liufau after he absorbed a big hit. Liufau is likely to start this coming Saturday for Colorado, though, and hopefully for the team, that’ll signal a return to winnings ways.

Colorado boasts of a high-octane passing attack, one that averages 306.3 passing yards per game—good for 21st in the FBS. Bryce Bobo can help Liufau look fantastic with him prowling downfield. So far this season, Bobo has 331 receiving yards and two touchdowns. There’s also the pair of Shay Fields and Devin Ross, who have 492 and 412 receiving yards, respectively, on the season.

The prospect of Colorado having a field day passing the ball this Saturday looks good considering Arizona State’s poor defense against the pass. The Sun Devils are last in the Pac-12 in passing defense with 404.3 passing yards surrendered per contest.

Colorado is 4-0 ATS in its last four home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Colorado (-13.5) wins, 38-25.
