Betting on the Washington Huskies (-10)
The Washington Huskies will head to their Pac-12 showdown with Utah with momentum on their side after crushing the Oregon State Beavers, 41-17, on Saturday. It was another impressive victory for the Huskies, who improved their season-record to 7-0. They have won their first seven assignments by an average of 33.7 points.
Key to Washington’s blistering start has been their excellent offense. The Huskies are averaging a whopping 48.3 points per game this season, fourth-best in the entire FBS. Just like in their previous six victories, it was Jake Browning who stole the show for Washington in this game. He accounted for 312 total yards and four touchdowns in the win against Oregon State. The sophomore quarterback has completed 118 of 172 passes for 1,709 yards this season, with 26 touchdowns and only two interceptions.
For the Huskies to preserve their unbeaten record against the Utes, they will need to quickly establish their ground game this coming Saturday. They are 24th nationally in rushing, averaging 227.6 yards per contest. Washington rushed for 219 yards in the win against Oregon State. Myles Gaskin was superb for the Huskies in that victory, rushing for 128 yards on 18 carries with one touchdown. He has rushed for 727 yards and six scores this season. Gaskin will have his work cut for him, however, against a Utah defensive line that’s allowing just 119.6 rushing yards per game this season, 21st in the FBS.
The Huskies are 6-4 SU and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games. They are pegged at +750 to win the national championship this season.
Betting on the Utah Utes (+10)
Utah extended its winning streak to three games with a nail-biting 52-45 victory over the UCLA Bruins on Saturday. Joe Williams starred for the Utes in this win, rushing for a school-record 332 yards and four touchdowns in his second game back from retirement. That performance comes on the heels of his 179 yard, one-score showing against Oregon State the previous weekend.
The Utes’ ground game, for that matter, has been rock-solid this season, They are 32nd in the FBS in rushing offense, averaging 214.4 yards per game this campaign. The Utes have already scored 19 rushing touchdowns this season. Utah rushed for a school-record 360 yards in the win against UCLA. Utah’s vaunted running game will be put to the test, though, by a Washington defensive line that’s allowing just 145.4 yards per game on the ground this season, 47th in the entire nation.
That being said, the Utes will still fancy their chances against the Huskies as they have fared extremely well against them of late. Utah snapped its eight-game losing streak against Washington last year with a hard-fought 34-23 win. The Utes’ defense took center stage in that victory as they recorded a whopping four takeaways. The Utes will need that same kind of defensive performance against a Washington side that’s averaging 486.6 total yards per game this season, 24th in the FBS.
The Utes are 9-1 SU and 4-6 ATS in their last 10 home games.
