Betting on the Portland Trail Blazers
Rip City is coming off a loss to the Clippers, 114-106, who got some revenge from last season’s playoff ousting. The game was neck and neck before the Clips were able to pull away in the final frame. It was a tough defeat, as the Blazers shot and assisted more, and rebounded just as much.
Portland will now face Denver and the challenges of its high altitude. They’ll also try to survive as they hit the road, with four of their next five games being held on the opponents’ home turf.
As they move forward, expect the team’s lethal duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum to continue what they do best: shooting threes and attacking the rim.
Lillard, who’s predicted by many as the MVP come awarding time, is having an MVP type of numbers two games in, averaging 33 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and two threes per game. His partner in crime, McCollum, is behind him with 20.5 points, three rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
The Blazers’ men on the paint, Mason Plumlee and Al-Farouq Aminu, will have to do better doing their jobs. The two are just combining for 10.5 rebounds per game, and the team is allowing 46 points in the paint.
Betting on the Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets, who are pegged at +2,000 to win the Northwest Division, opened up with a win in New Orleans, beating the Pelicans, 107-102. They did, however, failed in containing Anthony Davis, who obliterated the stat sheet with 50 points, 16 rebounds, five assists, seven steals, and four blocks. AD’s fantasy owners are surely pleased.
Against the Blazers, it’s not a big man that they have to worry about, it’s the little guys – Lillard and McCollum. Emmanuel Mudiay, Will Barton, or whoever they face up versus the guards are sure to run around with their hands up.
On offense, Denver is pretty all-around. Every guy in the rotation can be hot at an given day (seven guys averaged 10 or more points last season), but the main scorers will likely be Danilo Gallinari (15.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 asssits, and 1.7 threes in six seasons with the Nuggets) and Will Barton (13.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.2 threes in three seasons with the Nuggets).
The team also has a good set of young guns – good points-rebounds-assists producer Emmanuel Mudiay, great passing big man Nikola Jokic, hustling rebounder Jusuf Nurkic, and shooter Jamal Murray.
Denver is 1-9 SU (5-5 ATS) in their last 10 games against Portland.
