Game Preview
One team’s winning streak is about to end this Monday, when the Ravens and the Patriots cross each other’s path in the punctuating match of Week 14. The Ravens are on a mild two-game run and are coming off a dominant 38-6 victory over the Dolphins last week. The Ravens’ offense was a surprise against Miami, as it was the highest score Baltimore has had so far this season.
The Ravens are just 21st in the league with 21.3 points per game output. What’s not shocking, however, was the Ravens’ defense that made Miami bleed for a pathetic 277 total yards. Their run defense is particularly brutal to opponents this year with the Ravens surrendering just 73.8 rushing yards per game.
That should be a crucial element for Baltimore, which will try to stymie the Patriots’ offense that, even with the great Tom Brady under center, may put added work on their backfield considering the out-for-the-season status of tight end Rob Gronkowski.
Brady played well as usual the last time out, passing for 269 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions on 33 of 46 completions during the Pats’ 26-10 thrashing of the LA Rams. LeGarrette Blount, meanwhile, rushed for 88 yards and a TD on 18 carries. It’s going to be interesting to see just how much damage Blount and the Pats’ backfield will do on the sturdy run defense of Baltimore.
