Betting on the Minnesota Golden Gophers (+14.5)

The Golden Gophers defeated Northwestern last week, 29-12, handing Minnesota its fifth win in its last six games while going 3-3 against the spread during that stretch. However, Minny’s yet to get one over a winning team this season, one key reason why the program is regarded as more than a two-touchdown underdog here.

Still, the fact remains that Minnesota’s beaten of most of their opponents this season, mainly through a defense that’s given up less than 400 offensive yards in nine out of 11 games and allowed just 22.2 points per game on average, among the lowest in the country.

Offensively, this team has found most of its success on the ground, where second-year running back Rodney Smith, who leads the Big Ten with 16 touchdown runs, has established supremacy. But he’s gone relatively quiet in his previous two games, registering just 85 yards on 33 rushes with a pair of TDs.

Minnesota is 4-1 SU and 1-4 ATS in its last five home games.

Betting on the Wisconsin Badgers (-14.5)

Wisconsin’s going to win this game through its defense, which is conceding just 13.4 points this season, the fifth-lowest in the country.

The Badgers have won their last five games (4-1 ATS), a stretch in which their D is allowing just 11.2 points per game, including 9 or fewer points versus Iowa, Northwestern and Illinois. The offense, primarily the rushing game, has also stepped up lately, outscoring their last two opponents, 97-23.

Senior RB Corey Clement has eclipsed the 100-yard mark in the previous three games, and has reached the end zone at least once in that span. He has 11 running scores in total this season.

Writer’s Prediction
