Minnesota lost yet another game last Saturday, as the Golden Gophers absorbed a 76-69 defeat at the hands of the Penn State Nittany Lions at home. The Golden Gophers remain a one-win team in the Big Ten with that loss. Big man Dawson Garcia led the Golden Gophers against Penn State with 23 points and seven rebounds. Garcia, who leads Minnesota in scoring this season, put up 17 points with six rebounds and four assists in a 78-60 home loss o Illinois last January.
Minnesota, which entered the Penn State game 11th in the nation with 0.618 assists/FGM, is 3-5-2 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Illinois Fighting Illini (-15.0)
Record: 17-9 Overall/8-7 Conference
Illinois is also on a slump, as the Fighting Illini lost both of their last two outings. They lost to the Nittany Lions on Valentine’s Day (93-81) before falling prey to the Indiana Hoosiers last Saturday, 71-68. Both those losses were on the road, though, so the Fighting Illini are hoping for a better result this coming Monday. The last time they were in Champaign, the Fighting Illini took down a very good Rugets Scarlet Knights tea on Feb. 11, 69-60. Baylor transfer Matthew Mayer led Illinois in the win over Minnesota last month with 19 points and 10 boards.
The Fighting Illini are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Illinois wins, 76-56.
