Betting on the Tennessee Titans (-4.5)
The Tennessee Titans will head to their crunch showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars with momentum on their side after beating the Kansas City Chiefs, 19-17, on Sunday. It was a morale-boosting victory for the Titans who extended their winning streak to three games. With the win, Tennessee kept pace with the Houston Texans in the AFC South title race with just two games remaining this season.
Leading the way for the Titans in their Week 15 win was Ryan Succop. He kicked a 53-yard field goal into the wind as time expired to give the Titans the improbable victory. Succop’s kick capped off a six-play, 40-yard drive that was engineered by Marcus Mariota with just 1:07 remaining in the game clock. He passed for 241 yards in that ballgame.
The Titans will look to sustain the momentum of that huge win when they lock horns with the Jaguars this coming Saturday. Tennessee will fancy its chances of doing just that as it has fared extremely well against Jacksonville of late. The Titans have won each of their last two meetings with the Jaguars. Tennessee thrashed Jacksonville, 36-22, in their first meeting this season. Mariota starred for the Titans in that contest, throwing for 270 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He posted an incredible passer rating of 148.1 in that clash, the second-highest of his career. Mariota will look to replicate that feat against a Jacksonville defense that’s allowing 210.6 yards per game through the air this season, fifth-lowest in the NFL.
The Titans are 3-4 ATS on the road this season.
Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (+4.5)
Enough is enough. Gus Bradley’s tenure as Jacksonville head coach came to an abrupt end after the Jaguars suffered a gut-wrenching 21-20 loss to Houston on Sunday. Owner Shad Khan decided to yield the axe on Bradley who went just 14-48 in his career as Jacksonville boss. Bradley’s .226 win percentage is the worst in the Super Bowl era among coaches with a minimum of 50 games.
Next up for the struggling Jaguars is a clash with the Tennessee Titans. For Jacksonville to record a major shock and cover the spread against Tennessee, it needs to get a much better performance from Blake Bortles. He completed just 12 of 28 passes for 92 yards and one interception in the loss to Houston. With Bortles struggling mightily with his command, the Jaguars once again crumbled as they let slip a 20-11 lead in the fourth quarter. The Jaguars’ next head coach will need to think long and hard if Bortles is really the man to take Jacksonville forward.
It isn’t just Bortles who’s struggling right now but the entire Jacksonville offense. They are 25th in the NFL in rushing and third-down conversions, 28th in total offense and 26th in pass offense this season. The Jaguars will need to get their act together against a Tennessee defense that’s allowing just 358.4 total yards per game this season.
The Jaguars are 0-4 SU and ATS in their last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Tennessee (-4.5) eases past Jacksonville, 24-14.
