Betting on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (-3.5)
Get ready to see lots of running from the Yellow Jackets. Armed with one of the most prolific and deadliest ground attack in the nation, Georgia Tech will certainly be looking to pick on Kentucky’s weakness against the run this Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets, who defeated Georgia in their last regular season game, 28-27, is currently 10th in the nation with 257.4 rushing yards per game. The Bulldogs got a good look of how tough it is to contain Georgia Tech’s ground game, as the Yellow Jackets compiled 226 rushing yards in the said contest.
Justin Thomas is the center of the Yellow Jackets’ triple-option attack with the quarterback racking up 1,454 passing yards and eight touchdowns while also placing third on the team with 562 rushing yards to go with five rushing scores.
Running back Dedrick Mills, meanwhile, is going to be a man to watch this Saturday, as he has 602 rushing yards on the season and leads the team in rushing touchdowns with 11. Expect him to see gaps on the Wildcats’ run defense that ranks just 107th nationally against the run.
Georgia Tech is 3-0 ATS in its last three games.
Betting on the Kentucky Wildcats (+3.5)
After beating rival and No. 11 Louisville, 41-38, the Wildcats have all the confidence they need heading into Saturday’s showdown with Georgia Tech.
Kentucky has quarterback Stephen Johnson to thank for most of its success this season. Since replacing Drew Baker as starter under center, Johnson has helped the team go 7-3. Against Louisville, Johnson passed for 338 yards and three touchdowns with an interception on 16 of 27 completions. He also added 83 rushing yards on eight carries in the Louisville game.
Of course, Johnson will be complemented by Kentucky’s robust backfield that could hang with Georgia Tech. The Wildcats aren’t a team to be taken lightly on the ground, as they’re rushing the ball at an average of 241.3 per game, 16th overall in the nation.
Cooling Georgia Tech’s dreaded triple-option offense isn’t going to be an easy task, but the Wildcats boast of some defensive pieces that could make a big difference. Josh Allen, for one, leads the Wildcats with seven sacks. Jordan Jones, meanwhile, is a great run stopper, having collected 100 total tackles on the season.
Kentucky is 3-3 SU and 5-1 ATS in its last six games as an underdog.
