Orlando Magic vs. Miami Heat (7:30 PM ET)
Line: Orlando Magic (+8) vs. Miami Heat (-8); total: 207.5 – view all NBA lines
Miami bid farewell to its 13-game winning streak after Saturday night’s 117-109 loss to a shorthanded Sixers team. Goran Dragic and Hassan Whiteside delivered the goods for the Heat, combining for 42 points and 24 rebounds combined. 30 of those points came from the latter alone while Whiteside punched in his 34th double-double of the season. But those efforts didn’t matter as Miami’s defense and 20 turnovers proved to be the deal breaker. The Heat hope to regain their mettle with a favorable showdown with the Magic, who haven’t been scoring much this season and are losers of their last four. They did beat the Heat at home on Dec. 22, however.
Both teams have split the first two meetings this season, with the visitors emerging triumphant in each one.
Writer’s Prediction
Miami (-8) wins and covers.
Golden State Warriors vs. Denver Nuggets (9:00 PM ET)
Line: Golden State Warriors (-11.5) vs. Denver Nuggets (+11.5); total: 239.5– view all NBA lines
Let’s cut to the chase already—the Dubs will win here. They’ve won their last three, 15 of 17 and currently lead this season’s series with Denver, 2-0. The Warriors racked up 125 or more points in both of those wins, and that trend should continue. The Nuggets have lost five of their last eight games and have allowed at least 117 points each in their past three contests.
Look to Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to tilt the scoreboard once again. The three combined for 86 points in Saturday’s 130-114 win at Oklahoma City.
Writer’s Prediction
Golden State (-11.5) wins and covers.
