Betting on the Philadelphia 76ers (23-42)
Philadelphia’s losing woes show no sign of abating as the Sixers crashed to their fourth consecutive defeat with a 112-100 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday. The Sixers simply had no answer for the Clips’ balanced attack with five LA players scoring in double figures. It was another disappointing result for the reeling Sixers who have now lost seven of their last eight games.
The Sixers will look to end their losing rut when they square off with the Los Angeles Lakers later tonight. For Philly to pull off the much-needed victory, it needs to improve on its play on the defensive end. In their last four losses, opponents have scored an average of 118.5 points. Their defensive ineptitude was in full display in the fourth quarter of their game against the Clips where they were outscored by Doc Rivers’ men, 37-21.
With regards to their offense, the Sixers are expected to ride the hot hand of Dario Saric. In 13 games dating to February 8, Saric is averaging 19.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists and shooting 48.6 percent. Only Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, DeMarcus Cousins and Giannis Antetokounmpo have registered similar numbers during that stretch.
Philadelphia is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 road games.
Betting on the Los Angeles Lakers (20-45)
Hallelujah! The Los Angeles Lakers finally snapped their eight-game losing streak with a 122-110 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night. Six players scored in double-figures for the Lakers who earned their first win in Phoenix since January 5, 2011. LA had lost 11 straight road games against Phoenix, including a humiliating 137-101 defeat in their previous game at Talking Stick Resort Arena on February 15, the most one-sided Suns win in the series’ history.
The Lakers now return home to face the Sixers on Sunday night, a matchup of two teams in the bottom four in the NBA. For the Lakers to record back-to-back wins, they will need to get another solid performance from D’Angelo Russell. He was exceptional in the win against the Suns, scoring a game-high 28 points, including six three-pointers. Russell has been on fire since the All-Star break, averaging 21.9 points, 5.1 assists, 39.3 percent from 3-point range since the mid-season festivities.
The Lakers are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Lakers (-4) edge past the Sixers, 103-99.
