Betting on the Indiana Pacers (36-34)
Up-and-down, hot-and-cold, inconsistent, unpredictable – all of those words have been used to describe this team. In-between late December and mid February, Indiana had – in no particular order – a three-game, a four-game, and a six-game losing streak, along with a five-game and a seven-game winning streak. If it was made into a line graph, it can really appear to be a crazy-looking roller coaster.
The Pacers are even taking it to a whole new level in the past month, as they are now alternating Ws and Ls for 13 STRAIGHT GAMES (6-7 SU and ATS). So, again… Inconsistency, thy name is Indiana Pacers.
They have faced the Celtics twice this season, losing in both contests. Indy only put up 100.5 PPG and shot a mediocre 42.2 percent from the floor, while also turning the ball over a combined 32 times. Paul George, the team’s leading scorer, only played in one of those meetings. He scored 19 points on 5-for-16 shooting, and also recorded eight rebounds, five assists, two steals, and five turnovers.
Floor general Jeff Teague has been the most consistent in the group. He’s netting 25.5 points and 6.0 assists in the season series.
The Pacers are currently sixth in the East’s ever-changing, sixth, seventh, and eighth playoff spot.
Betting on the Boston Celtics (45-26)
The Celtics are winners in four of their last five, with the most recent being a 110-102 domination of the Wizards, where they led in double digits for most of the contest. In the game, their defense held the deadly backcourt tandem of John Wall and Bradley Beal to an unappealing 10-for-25 shooting and made them commit 10 turnovers.
For at least the next couple of games, particularly Wednesday night versus Indy, the Cs shouldn’t have problems continuing to pile up wins. They put up 107 PPG when meeting the Pacers this season, and in both of those encounters, they had six guys scoring in double figures, with Isaiah Thomas leading the way by averaging 25.5 points and 7.0 assists.
Thomas and company, as you may know, have a very balanced offense. They are top 10 in points (107.4 PPG) and offensive efficiency, and their crisp ball movement have them ranking third in the league in assists (24.8 APG).
Boston is 17-3 in its last 20 games at home (10-10 ATS).
Writer’s Prediction
The Celtics (-8) get the W, but fail to cover the spread, 106-100.
