Betting on the Arizona Diamondbacks (31-21)

Moneyline: +103

The Arizona Diamondbacks are in the midst of a rare losing skid. After winning 10 of their last 11 and five in a row, the D-Backs dropped back-to-back games to the Milwaukee Brewers to split their four-game series.

Arizona’s starting pitching led them down in both losses. Ace Zack Greinke had one of his worst starts of the season as he gave up five earned runs on five hits in just 5.1 innings. Meanwhile, Patrick Corbin got absolutely rocked for seven hits on 10 hits in four innings on Sunday.

The D-backs will be hoping for a significantly better showing from tonight’s starter, Randall Delgado. The 27-year-old reliever got his first start of the season last Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox. He lasted only four innings, but gave up just three hits and one earned run.

First baseman Paul Goldschmidt was given the game off on Sunday, and should be fresh for this afternoon’s matchup. Goldie went 5-of-17 with three home runs and five RBI in a four-game series against the Pirates earlier this season.

Betting on the Pittsburgh Pirates (23-28)

Moneyline: -113

The Pittsburgh Pirates fell 7-2 to the New York Mets last night, as they lost the series 2-1. The Buccos were beat up good in both of those losses, 8-1 and 7-2. Rookie Tyler Glasnow gave up five runs on eight hits and lasted 5.1 innings in last night’s loss.

Trevor Williams will look to avoid a similar fate when he makes his fourth start of the season. The right-hander has yet to put together a quality start (at least six innings and no more than three runs allowed) in his first three starts, and is 1-1 with a 6.27 ERA.

The first of those starts was against the Diamondbacks in Arizona earlier this month. That’s arguably his best outing of the season to date, as he allowed a single run on four hits in five innings.

However, he will be hard-pressed for run support from a struggling Pirates offense that’s producing just 3.78 runs per game at home (28th in MLB). Former NL MVP Andrew McCutchen has struggled for most of the year and was recently moved down to 6th in the order. But since that switch, he’s gone 3-of-7 with a homer and three RBI.

Writer’s Prediction

The D-backs (+103) snap out of their mini-skid as they pounce on the Pirates.
