Betting on the Arizona Diamondbacks
The D’backs will have a Zack working the mound for them tonight. Not Greinke, but Zack Godley, who’s arguably just been as effective—if not better—as the former Cy Young winner over his past few starts.
In five starts this season, Godley has accumulated a 1-1 record and a 1.99 ERA. Godley has pitched at least six innings in four of those starts, including a 4-2 road win in Milwaukee on May 26 in which the righty tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just five hits with only one walk issued and 11 strikeouts, while walking away with a no-decision. The D’backs are 3-1 in Godley’s last four starts.
Behind Godley is Arizona’s offense that features the reliable bats of Chris Owings and Paul Goldschmidt. As of this writing, Owings is hitting .322 with a pair of home runs this month. Goldschmidt is sitting on a .301 batting average with seven home runs and 19 RBI.
Betting on the Pittsburgh Pirates
Chad Kuhl isn’t having a cool season. He is just 1-5 with a 6.29 ERA. He’s likely wishing his last start will be expunged from the record books, which was a 8-1 home loss to the Mets on May 26.
In that game, Kuhl surrendered five earned runs (two home runs) on eight hits in just 4.1 innings of action. The Pirates will try him again tonight against Arizona’s brilliant offense at home, where Kuhl is 1-3 with an 8.61 ERA in six starts at PNC Park this year. With Kuhl struggling, the Pirates’ bats will have to show up.
Josh Harrison has been great at the plate this month, as he is hitting .303 with four home runs in May. He’s been better in his last seven games during which he went 13-for-32. Jody Mercer, meanwhile, is 13-for-28 with a pair of blasts in his last seven.
Writer’s Prediction
