We’re right in the doldrums of an NBA- and NHL-free landscape. Luckily, the MLB regular season is just getting into another gear and ready to give us our daily fix of sports-betting action.

Here are a couple of Thursday night’s more intriguing baseball matchups – an interleague clash from the City of Brotherly Love and a divisional showdown over in the NL East – to keep your wagering appetite sated.

MLB World Series News and Previews

Boston Red Sox vs. Philadelphia Phillies (7:05 PM ET)

Line: Boston Red Sox (-240) at Philadelphia Phillies (+200); total: 8.0view all MLB lines

The Red Sox are looking to complete a four-game sweep of the Phillies, and they’ll certainly have an ace up their sleeve by way of Chris Sale (8-2, 2.97 ERA) to seal the deal in the series finale. Sale has been an absolute force, earning his fourth-straight winning decision last Saturday versus the Tigers and further increasing his MLB-best K-count to 126 strikeouts.

Meanwhile, the Phillies continue to sprial out of control. They’ve lost eight straight after their 7-3 defeat to the Sox on Wednesday and have been outscored by their opponents a combined 50-20 during that skid.

Writer’s Prediction

The Red Sox (-240) cruise to a 6-2 victory.

Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets (7:10 PM ET)

Line: Washington Nationals (-115) at New York Mets (+105); total: 8.5view all MLB lines

Washington gave up a rare series loss to the visiting Braves on Tuesday, being blown out by a score of 13-2 for the team’s fifth loss in six games. Still, the Nats have a comfortable 8.5-game lead atop the NL East, and starter Gio Gonzalez (5-1, 2.91 ERA) should be able to get his team back on the right path in the series opener in New York. Gonzalez allowed just one run in 6.1 innings of work the last time he faced the Mets.

The Mets, however, are heading in the exact opposite direction with five wins in their last six. On the other hand, their recent fortunes might be coming to and end, as their rivals from D.C. have won seven of the last nine meetings held on their own home field, including a three-game sweep at the start of the current season.

Writer’s Prediction

The Nationals (-115) eke out a close one, 4-3.
