Houston Astros vs. Atlanta Braves (7:35 PM ET)
LINE: Houston Astros (-144) vs. Atlanta Braves (+134) – total: 9.5
The Astros will enter the game having won four of their last five. Plenty of the team’s hard-hitters have been consistent in providing offense, but Carlos Correa, who’s 12-for-24 with three homers and 10 RBIs in the past week, is currently the hottest man in the roster. He’ll be joined by projected starter Brad Peacock on defense, a sixth-year vet that has struck out 15 and only allowed two runs in his last 10.2 innings.
For the Braves, they too are boasting a nice streak, as they have stitched together three straight victories. Ender Inciarte and Nick Markakis, as always, will lead the pack in trying to counter the opposing club’s hitters. The defense, meanwhile, will be headlined by Sean Newcomb, who’s 1-2 with a 1.48 ERA in four starts this year.
Houston is up in the season series, two-zip, with a combined score of 12-5.
Writer’s prediction:
The Astros (-144) take it, 8-3.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. L.A. Dodgers (9:10 PM ET)
LINE: Arizona Diamondbacks (+245) vs. L.A. Dodgers (-285) – total: 7.0
The Diamondbacks and the Dodgers, the top two teams in the National League West, will open their third series of the season in L.A., with the former leading the season series, 4-3.
Both clubs have some heavy-handed batters on their arsenal, with the D-Backs also having five different players hitting above .300 on the year’s head-to-head matchup. The Dodgers, as you may know, have the firepower of Corey Seager, Yasiel Puig, and the continually rising Cody Bellinger, among others, who are key figures in having the team blast 16 dingers and 40 RBIs in their last eight games.
Arizona will start Patrick Corbin (6-7, 4.76 ERA) on the mound, and he will be going up against superstar pitcher Clayton Kershaw (12-2, 2.32 ERA).
Writer’s prediction:
The Dodgers (-285) even the season series with a 6-3 win.
