Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Mets (4:05 PM ET)
Line: Los Angeles Dodgers (-185) at New York Mets (+165); total: 9.0 – view all MLB lines
The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to two games with a resounding 6-0 victory over the New York Mets on Friday. Yu Darvish dazzled in his debut for the Dodgers, throwing seven shutout innings to notch his seventh victory of the season. The league leaders will look to keep the momentum going when they lock horns with the Mets in the second game of their three-game set tonight.
Starting for LA this evening is Rich Hill (8-4, 3.35 ERA). He has been superb for the Dodgers this campaign, allowing two or fewer earned runs in 12 of his 15 starts this season. Contributing to Hill’s success this year has been his solid command. In Hill’s last three starts, he has struck out 20 batters and has walked just four. The Dodgers have now won each of their last five games with Hill on the mound. The Mets, on the other hand, will have Seth Lugo (5-3, 4.53 ERA) as their starter tonight. Lugo, who will be facing the Dodgers for the first time in his career, went 2-2 with a 5.29 ERA in the month of July. He is 5-3 with a 4.53 ERA in nine home starts this season.
Writer’s Prediction: LA (-185) wins, 6-3.
Seattle Mariners vs. Kansas City Royals (7:15 PM ET)
Line: Seattle Mariners (+115) vs. Kansas City Royals (-125); total: 9.0 – view all MLB lines
For the Mariners to have a shot at reaching this year’s postseason, they will need Felix Hernandez to rediscover his old form. The Seattle ace has his highest ERA (4.28) since 2006 in 13 starts. The veteran righty is 3-2 with a 4.02 ERA in eight appearances since coming off the disabled list, including a loss to Kansas City in Seattle on July 4, when he gave up six runs (5 earned) in six innings.
Hernandez will need to be at his best Saturday night as he will be pitching against the in-form Danny Duffy (7-6, 3.42 ERA). The 28-year-old has allowed one run in three of his last four starts for the Royals. Duffy has been solid at Kauffman Stadium this season, posting a 2.93 ERA in seven home starts this campaign. He is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in seven career outings against Seattle.
Writer’s Prediction: Kansas City (-125) edges past Seattle, 6-4.
