Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide 11-0 (-4.5)
Alabama extended their undefeated record to 11-0 with a decisive 56-0 a** whooping against FCS Mercer last week. The Crimson Tide drove 75, 65, 98, 40 and 49 yards for touchdowns on its first five possessions. The added one more in the fourth-quarter for good measure, and to cover the 50-point spread.
Alabama outgained their opponent 530-161, with 265 yards on the ground and 265 in the air. With the exception of LSU (who they beat anyways) Alabama has now outgained and outrushed every opponent this 2017 college football season.
Two seasons ago, Alabama won the Iron Bowl 29-13 and covered as 14-point favorites. Last season, the Crimson Tide defeated Auburn 30-12 but neglected to cover the 20-point spread, which was over-inflated to begin with.
Alabama sits on top of the College Football Playoff rankings, and a win against Auburn would all but guarantee their spot.
Betting on the Auburn Tigers 9-2 (+4.5)
Auburn is 4-0 straight up and 3-1 against the spread in their last four games, with a most recent 42-14 win over Louisiana-Monroe in Week 12 of the NCAA football season. The Tigers broke an early 7-7 tie by going on a 28-0 run into the fourth quarter, although they came up short of covering as 38-point favorites.
On the game, Auburn outgained their opponent 552-333, winning the battle on the ground by a total of 317-116. To date, the Tigers have outgained each of its last four opponents by at least 150 yards, and with the exception of Clemson, have outrushed every opponent this 2017 season.
With a 9-2 overall record, the Iron Bowl is a must-win. A victory lets them go to the SEC championship for a rematch against the Bulldog. A loss sends them to a pointless Big Ten bowl game.
Writer’s Prediction
While Alabama ruled the last two Iron Bowls, the Tigers team is different this year and the 4.5-points speaks to this. This game could go either way but for the sake of making a pick, Alabama feels right once again. Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide (-4.5)
