Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (24-5)
The Blue Devils are rolling. After beating the Syracuse Orange at home on Saturday, Duke is now on a five-game win streak, and it will look to keep it going on the road this Monday in a rematch with the Hokies. Duke defeated Virginia Tech on Valentine’s Day at home, 74-52. Grayson Allen led the Blue Devils with 25 points, while Gary Trent Jr. had 19 markers. Duke’s outside shooting was smoking in that game, as Allen and company went 15-for-33 from behind the arc. The Blue Devils also shot 50 percent from the field. That Duke dominated the Hokies without then injured star freshman Marvin Bagley III only makes their prospect of beating the same team again this Monday a lot bigger. Bagley returned to action in the Syracuse game and had 19 points and seven rebounds.
Duke, which is No. 2 in the nation with 87.2 points per game, is 9-1 SU in its last 10 games against the Hokies dating back to 2012.
Betting on the Virginia Tech Hokies (20-9)
Unlike Duke, the Hokies does not have momentum. They are coming off a 75-68 loss at the hands of Louisville on Saturday at home, which robbed them of a chance to enter Monday’s game against a surging Duke squad with some extra confidence. The Hokies, however, will have to worry more about shooting better. They shot just 42.9 percent from the field in the first meeting with Duke, and went only 7-for-20 from the three-point region. Also important is that they have to improve their performance on the glass, as they were vastly outrebounded then by the Blue Devils, 36-19, giving up 11 offensive rebounds to Duke.
Virginia can score, too, just like Duke. The Hokes are averaging 81.6 points per game and shoots 50.5 percent from the floor. They are 2-0 ATS in their last two home games against Duke.
Writer’s Prediction
Duke wins, 80-69.
