Betting on the Loyola Chicago Ramblers
There’s a reason why many picked Loyola Chicago as the potential Cinderella of this tournament, and the Ramblers showed just why when they scored a 64-62 upset over Miami in the first round. Donte Ingram came through in the clutch for the Ramblers, as he drained a three-pointer with only a fraction of a second left. While it was Ingram’s dagger that sealed the win for the Ramblers, it’s their defense that put them in the position to win i, as they caused Miami to commit 16 turnovers. This should not come a surprise for those who have followed them play. Loyola Chicago allowed just 62.0 points per game back in the regular season, fourth best in the nation. The Ramblers also moved the ball well against Miami, collecting 18 assists. That kind of unselfishness will come in handy in breaking down Tennessee’s stout defense.
Betting on the Tennessee Volunteers
Unlike Loyola Chicago, the Vols had a yawner of a win in the first round, easily destroying Wright State, 73-47, on Thursday. Admiral Schofield (what a name) and Grant Williams teamed up to lead Tennessee, as they combined for 29 points, while reserve Lamonte Turner had himself a game with 19 markers off the bench. It won’t be this easy for them against Loyola Chicago, but the Vols will also make life difficult for the Ramblers. Tennessee owns a defense that is ranked third on KenPom with only 92.0 points allowed per 100 possessions. The Vols deflated Wright State’s morale with that kind of defense, limiting the Raiders to only 31.7 percent shooting from the field and 19 percent from deep. Tennessee averages 74.2 points per game.
Writer’s Prediction
Loyola Chicago continues to shock the field with a 74-71 win.
