Betting on the Oakland Athletics (+1.5)

On the mound for the A’s this Sunday is Brett Anderson (0-1, 8.68 ERA), who is still searching for this first win of the season. This will be his third start of the year and first since getting rocked by the Houston Astros in a 16-2 loss at home on May 7. In that game, Anderson allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits in just three innings of hill duty. Anderson is winless in seven career starts against the Yankees with a 6.81 ERA in those games. With that, the A’s will have to get enough offense from her hitters, as Oakland can’t simply hope that Anderson will have a great game against his frequent conqueror. As a team, the A’s have a .227 batting average against Yankees starter Luis Severino. Anderson’s teams are 4-6 in his last 10 home starts dating back to 2016.

Betting on the New York Yankees (-1.5)

Luis Severino has been a monster on the mound of late. He has registered double-digit strikeouts in his last two starts, including in the Yankees’ 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on May 8 in which the righty allowed just two earned runs on six hits while fanning 11 batters in six innings of work. So far this year, Severino is 5-1 with a 2.21 ERA in eight starts. As for New York’s offense, they will look for their hitters to continue punishing Anderson. The Yankees have a collective batting average of .300 opposite the A’s lefty. Giancarlo Stanton is 13-for-32 with six homers this season against lefties as of this writing. The Yankees are also 10-0 in the 24-year-old Severino’s last 10 home starts.

Writer’s Prediction:

Yankees win, 5-3.
