The Jacksonville Jaguars exceeded expectations last season by a mile after making it all the way into the AFC Championship Game. The pressure is on for them to prove that was no fluke. As for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they just want to survive the first three weeks of the regular season or while quarterback Jameis Winston serves his suspension.
The Jaguars have odds of +800 to win the AFC according to TopBet’s NFL Futures odds. The Bucs, on the other hand, are deemed longshots to emerge as kings of the NFC, with odds of +5,000.

Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1)
The Jags won last week over the Atlanta Falcons, 16-7, but it came at a cost, as Jacksonville wide receiver, their best option downfield, Marqise Lee suffered a knee injury in that game. The injury requires Lee to undergo surgery, which has also prompted Jacksonville to put him on the Injured Reserve list. This is a bad break for the Jags, but at least they have one more exhibition game to use in sorting out who should move up in the wide receiver pecking order in light of Lee’s injury. Still on offense, the Jaguars need to tighten up their pass protection after giving up five sacks to Atlanta. Although Blake Bortles is unlikely to play this Thursday, another bad job from the team’s O-line could be a bad sign for the quarterback in the regular season.
The Jaguars are 3-1 SU and 3-1 ATS in their last four preseason games, dating back to 2017.
Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1)
Peyton Barber probably has the starting running back job for Week 1 of the regular season in the bag. That’s after he rushed for 34 yards and a touchdown on five carries, albeit in a 33-30 loss to the Detroit Lions at home last week. Thursday’s game could also be the last time until the Week 4 of the regular season that Jameis Winston will be on the field. (That’s if the Bucs let him to play, of course.) Winston is suspended for the first four games of the regular season because for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
The Bucs are just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 preseason games at home. The under is 3-1 in their last four preseason contests.
Writer’s Prediction
Jacksonville wins, 28-23.
