Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (odds)
Regular Season Record: 1-0
The biggest takeaway from the Steelers’ 32-25 win in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL preseason over the Seattle Seahawks at home was that Kenny Pickett looked good in his first run in a competitive NFL setting. The rookie quarterback went 13/15 for 95 passing yards and a couple of touchdowns. It’s not just Pickett who found success as QB for the Steelers in that game, as both Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky each had a passing touchdown. Wide receiver George Pickens was another Steelers rookie who made noise, as the former Georgia Bulldogs wideout had 43 yards and a touchdown on three catches and five targets. There are rumors that Pickett could eventually become the Steelers’ starter before even the end of the 2022 NFL regular season, and he’s likely to have heard of those talks. That’s something that should further encourage him to look good on the field against a Jags’ defense that has been leaky all preseason long.
The Steelers are 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six Saturday games.
Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (odds)
Regular Season Record: 0-2
Although the Jags remain winless after two games in the preseason, having lost last week to the Cleveland Browns at home, 24-13, they still managed to turn heads at least offensively when their starters were on the field. Trevor Lawrence went 6/12 for 96 passing yards and a touchdown, with new tight end Evan Engram catching that nine-yarder from Lawrence for a score. Lawrence and the Jaguars could be on the way to a much more productive night on offense this Saturday against the Steelers, who got taken advantage of on defense as well in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL preseason. The Jaguars would also still love to see a better effort from their defense, though, as they have allowed 51 points in two games in the preseason thus far.
The Jaguars are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight Saturday games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Steelers win, 27-20.
