Minnesota Vikings vs Philadelphia Eagles Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – NFL Week 5 – October 7 2018

The Philadelphia Eagles are undefeated in their last four games at home, so the odds are really in their favor when they meet the Minnesota Vikings this weekend. Will the Vikings put an end to  Philly’s win streak at home? Or will the Eagles extend that while also bouncing back from a loss in Week 4?

The Vikings are now +2,000 to win Super Bowl 53, while the Eagles are listed at +2,500 to repeat this season.

Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (1-2-1)

The Viking were outlasted and outcoached by the Los Angeles Rams in last week’s 38-31 loss in Tinseltown. Nevertheless, quarterback Kirk Cousins played like the mega-buck player that he is, as he passed for 422 yards and three touchdowns without an interception on 36-of-50 completions. But whatever it was that Cousins did for his team, the Vikings’ defense wasted it, as Minnesota allowed Rams signal-Caller Jared Goff have 456 passing yards and six touchdown throws. Four different Rams receivers scored those six touchdowns, showing just how lost Minnesota was against the pass in that contest. So far this season, the Vikings are 23rd against the pass with 277.5 passing yards allowed per game. It hasn’t been this bad defensively for the Vikings since Mike Zimmer took over as the team’s head coach, but at least he has the offense to cover most of the mistakes of the team’s stop unit.

The Vikings, who are fifth in passing yards, are 4-5-1 ATS in their last 10 road games.

Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (2-2)

The Eagles failed again in their attempt to win consecutive games this season after suffering a 23-23 overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans. One thing that the Eagles have to improve on is their pass protection. Quarterback Carson Wentz went 33 of 50 and finished with 348 passing yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions, but he was sacked four times for a loss of 33 yards and was also hit 11 times by Tennessee’s defense. The Vikings’ defense is in a rut, but the Eagles can’t afford to give Minnesota as much as a glimpse of hole on its offensive line. The Eagles are also  getting solid numbers from their tight ends, especially of late. After rookie Dallas Goedert had 73 rushing yards and a touchdown in a win over Indianapolis Colts back in Week 3, it was Zach Ertz’s turn on Sunday to explode, as the veteran finished with 112 receiving yards on 10 catches.

The Eagles are 3-1 ATS in their last four home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Minnesota wins, 26-23.
