Betting on the Denver Broncos (3-6)

The Broncos have gone downhill. Since going 2-0 after a win over the Oakland Raiders in Week 2, they have won just once in seven games. The Broncos are coming off back-to-back losses to the Kansas City Chiefs (30-23) and the Houston Texans (19-17) before entering a much-needed Week 10 bye. Against the Texans in Week 9, Case Keenum went 26-of-42 for 273 passing yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions, but severely lacked support from the team’s backfield, with Phillip Lindsay and Devontae Booker combining for just 75 rushing yards with a touchdown. One positive takeaway for the Broncos from that game, however, was the play of tight end Jeff Heuerman, who led the team with 83 receiving yards and a touchdown on 10 catches and 11 targets. He’s suddenly enjoying an expanded role due to the trade of Demaryius Thomas to the Texans, and he could do significant damage downfield again this weekend opposite the Chargers’ defense  that has allowed at least 52 receiving yards to opposing starting tight ends in each of their last two games.

The Broncos are 2-0 ATS in their last two road games.

Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (7-2)

The Chargers have their batteries full for several weeks now and they’re not showing any significant signs of losing power. They are riding a six-game win streak, including their 20-6 cakewalk of a win against the Oakland Raiders last week on the road. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers had 223 passing yards and a touchdown on 18-of-26 completions. He had a hiccup in the form of an interception, but it looks more like an aberration than anything else, as he has been rarely picked off this season. So far, Rivers has 2,459 passing yards and 21 touchdowns against just four interceptions. Rivers aside, it’s Los Angeles running back Melvin Gordon that is the man to watch for the Chargers. Gordon, who rushed for 93 rushing yards on 18 carries and had 72 receiving yards and a touchdown on five receptions, could find swaths of vacant space to run against Denver’s stop unit that’s only 26th in the league with 131.6 rushing yards per game.

The Chargers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five meetings with Denver.
