At this point, it would be more beneficial for the San Francisco 49ers to lose than win if they want a higher pick in next year’s NFL Draft. However, they obviously have some competitive fire left in them based on their performance in Week 16’s close loss to the playoff-bound Chicago Bears. But will that fire be enough to pass the test ahead of them in the form of the Los Angeles Rams, who are +450 to win Super Bowl 53? Going into the game the sportsbook favors the home team by double-digits.

Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (4-11)
That the 49ers managed to hang with a team like the Chicago Bears in a 14-9 home loss to Mitchell Trubisky and company in Week 16 can be taken as a moral victory for San Francisco. And it’s largely because of their defense that held the Bears in check. San Francisco allowed just 325 total yards to the Bears and forced them to commit two turnovers. They also sacked Trubisky three times for a loss of 11 yards. Repeating that kind of performance defensively against the well-oiled Rams offense is going to be easier said than done, so the Niners’ attack will have to step up too. San Francisco lost to the Rams in Week 7 at home, 39-10, though, the 49ers still had C.J. Beathard as quarterback back then. Now, they have a seemingly more stable signal-caller in Nick Mullens, who has 1,995 passing yards and 10 touchdowns against seven interceptions thus far this season.
The 49ers are 2-1 ATS in their last three games.
Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (12-3)
Who needs Todd Gurley? The Rams showed it can win even without arguably the most unstoppable offensive player in the NFL today when they beat the Arizona Cardinals on the road last Sunday, 31-9 without Gurley, who is still questionable to play due to a knee issue. Okay, it’s just the Cardinals, but what veteran tailback C.J. Anderson did in that game can’t be overlooked. Acting as an insurance to Gurley, Anderson erupted for 167 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries versus Arizona. He may have to reprise that role again in Week 17 against the Niners; who got gutted for 146 rushing yards and two touchdowns (both by Gurley) in the two team’s most recent meeting. Of course, the Rams still have quarterback Jared Goff and a stout defense that features Aaron Donald. Goff had 202 passing yards and two touchdowns with no errors in Week 7’s win over the Niners, while Donald and company recorded a dizzying total of seven sacks.
The over is 2-0-1 in the Rams’ last three games.
Writer’s Prediction
Los Angeles wins, 31-13.
