Betting on the Iowa State Cyclones (18-6 Overall / 7-4 Conference)
The Cyclones got tripped up by the TCU Horned Frogs last weekend, losing at home in that matchup, 92-83. Against the Horned Frogs, Iowa State shot 45.2 percent from the field and went 20-for-24 from the free throw line, but did not have as good of a performance on the defensive end of the floor. Iowa State let TCU shoot 53.2 percent from the field and. The Cyclones particularly did a bad job in containing the Horned Frogs top guns, with four TCU players scoring at least 17 points. Marial Shayok led all scorers with 24 points but negated some of those with his five turnovers. The Cyclones had 15 turnovers to just 12 by TCU. Iowa State owns a high efficiency on offense partly because they are among the best in ball security, though, it just didn’t manifest against the Horned Frogs. The Cyclones are averaging the fewest turnovers in the Big 12 with just 11.2 per game. They had 11 errors in a close 58-57 loss in Ames to K-State last month.
The Cyclones are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) this season after a loss.
Betting on the Kansas State Wildcats (19-5 Overall / 9-2 Conference)
The Wildcats have ascended to the to of the Big 12, further putting the rest of college basketball on notice. In their latest outing, they smothered the Texas Longhorns in Austin on Tuesday, 71-64. K-State relied on a satisfying balanced attack by its starters to beat the Longhorns. Xavier Sneed and Bruce Brown Jr. each scored 16 points, while Dean Wade had 12 points with five rebounds and six assists. In last month’s loss to Iowa State, Wade only had two points on 1-for-5 shooting from the field in 22 minutes. That salty game from Wade came at an intriguing time, as that was his first game from a six-game absence due to an injury. He should churn out a much better performance this coming weekend, considering that he’s shaken all the rust from a long absence. He is averaging 15.8 points in the last eight K-State games. As a team, the Wildcats’ defense will be a big key for the team against Iowa State. The Wildcats have the second-best defense in the Big 12 per KenPom and fourth in the nation with just 59.5 points allowed per game.
At home this season, the Wildcats are 14-1 straight up (SU) but just 8-7 against the spread (ATS).
Writer’s Prediction
Kansas State wins, 65-63.
