Betting on the Texas A&M Aggies (1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference)
The Aggies got off to a nice start to the season, as they demolished the Texas State Bobcats at home last Thursday, 41-7. Kellen Mond was a smooth operator out of the pocket, going for 194 yards and three touchdowns with an interception while completing 19 of his 27 throws. Mond was also a factor in the ground attack, as he scored a rushing touchdown with 55 rushing yards on five carries. Mond is very familiar with Clemson. Last year, he nearly guided the Aggies to an upset victory over the Tigers, passing for a huge total of 430 yards and three touchdowns (zero picks) on 23 of 40 completions. Clemson’s defense was viewed as one of the best — if not the best — entering the 2019 season, but it struggled numerous times last week. In other words, Mond could have another huge game against Clemson in the two teams’ next showdown.
The Aggies are 5-5 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 road games.
Betting on the Clemson Tigers (1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference)
The defending national champions kicked off their title defense with a convincing 52-14 home win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. That said, Clemson left much to be desired on their play on both ends of the field. Trevor Lawrence, projected to be a No. 1 pick overall in the NFL sometime in the future, had trouble running the offense. He finished with 168 passing yards and a touchdown but completed just 12 of 23 passes while also throwing a pair of interceptions. There’s still plenty of time for Lawrence to get it together and with over a week of rest and preparation for the rematch with Texas A&M, he should be just fine. Kelly Bryant was still the starting quarterback when the Tigers defeated Texas A&M in 2018, though, Lawrence had a cameo in that game, going 5 of 9 for 93 passing yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, running back and reigning ACC player of the year and running back Travis Etienne will look to leave his mark again. He ran all over the Yellow Jackets’ defense last week, exploding for 205 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just 12 carries.
The Tigers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games.
Writer’s Prediction
Clemson wins, 35-17.
