Betting on the Denver Broncos (0-4)
You have to feel for the Broncos. They are winless so far but could have been 2-2 at least if it weren’t for some bad calls and things that simply didn’t go their way. They had the lead with less than two minutes remaining in last week’s 26-24 home loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, but couldn’t stop the Jags from scoring thereafter to steal the win. At least Joe Flacco had his best game as a Bronco in Week 4, passing for 303 yard and three touchdowns against an interception on 22-of-38 completions. The Broncos also recorded five sacks against the Jaguars, which are their only QB takedowns this season. Denver, however, is dealing with a big loss on defense with linebacker Bradley Chubb sustaining a season-ending knee injury.
The Broncos, who are averaging 17.5 points per game, have seen the total hit the under in seven of their last 10 road games.
Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (2-2)
With the Chargers facing just the Miami Dolphins in Week 3, they did not have to rush running back Melvin Gordon back to action after he ended his hold out. The Chargers won that meeting, 30-10, to stop a two-game losing skid and give them momentum heading into a matchup against the Broncos at home. Philip Rivers toyed with Miami’s defense and passed for 310 yards and two touchdowns, while Austin Ekeler had two touchdowns (rushing and receiving). Gordon’s return will surely eat up on Ekeler’s snap count, but the latter’s performance during the former’s absence may have given secured him a significant role nonetheless on the Chargers’ offense that is currently fifth in the league with 403.8 total yards per contest. Gordon and Ekeler should have a field day picking up yards against Denver’s run defense that allows 149.2 rushing yards per game.
The Chargers are 6-4 straight up (SU) in their last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chargers win, 28-21.
