The No. 3 Clemson Tigers will have chips on their shoulders when they go up against the Louisville Cardinals in Week 8 of the NCAA football season. The Tigers have seen their ranking drop, and a dominant win this Saturday could be all it takes (apart from the performances of the LSU Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide) to get them to climb up at least a notch. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are looking to get their second win in a row against a ranked foe.

Betting on the Clemson Tigers (6-0 Overall / 4-0 Conference)
Despite sustaining their spotless win-record in a dominant 45-14 home win over the Florida State Seminoles at home last Saturday, the Tigers were not able to prevent the AP Poll committee from demoting them to the No. 3 spot in the rankings. It largely because of Clemson’s relatively less impressive performance of late than what the now-second-ranked LSU Tigers have done recently. Nevertheless, the Tigers have the tools to extend their winning streak when they go up against Louisville. They still have Trevor Lawrence, arguably the best quarterback in the nation today. Lawrence had 170 passing yards and three touchdowns against an interception in the Florida State game. Running back Travis Etienne complemented Lawrence with 127 rushing yards on 17 carries. Together, Lawrence and Etienne form one of the best — if not the best — one-two offensive tandem in the nation that mostly drives Clemson’s attack that is averaging 39.2 points per game and 497.0 total yards per contest.
The Tigers are 7-3 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games.
Betting on the Louisville Cardinals (4-2 Overall / 2-1 Conference)
For the first time since Lamar Jackson left for the NFL, the Cardinals have eked out a victory against a ranked opponent when Louisville edged the No. 19 Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem last Saturday. Evan Conley took over the quarterback role after starter Micale Cunningham left the Wake Forest game with an injury and finished with 196 passing yards and two touchdowns and an interception on 12-for-18 completions. Cunningham’s status is currently uncertain, though, he’s always managed to play despite minor injuries this season. If he can’t go, the Cardinals will go for Conley. The Cardinals’ offense presents a significant challenge even for Clemson’s elite defense. Louisville is 21st in the nation with 36.4 points per game and 23rd overall with 210.6 rushing yards per game, thanks in part to the team quarterbacks’ ability to run with the ball. The Cardinals are also hoping quarterback Jawon Pass will fully recover soon. Pass hasn’t played since Week 2, but is reportedly on day-to-day status.
The Cardinals are 4-2 ATS in their last six games.
Writer’s Prediction
