Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (8-4)
The Chiefs are more than just about Patrick Mahomes and you could ask the Oakland Raiders about that after Kansas City left them toothless in a 40-9 beating handed to them by the AFC West leaders last Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. The Raiders were held scoreless in the first three quarters by the seemingly improved defense of Kansas City, which has outscored its last two opponents, 66-6. Still, the Chiefs will go as far as where Mahomes will take them. Mahomes passed for only 175 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 15-of-29 completions against the Raiders, but will have to be better against the Patriots. The Patriots’ two losses so far this season were against athletic and mobile quarterbacks, which is a positive sign for the Chiefs, whose quarterback can create plays with either with his arm or legs.
The Chiefs are 4-2 against the spread (ATS) in their last six road games. The over is 7-3 in their last 10 games away from Arrowhead Stadium.
Betting on the New England Patriots (10-2)
The Patriots’ resiliency will be tested again following the humble pie the Houston Texans let them eat last Sunday in a 28-22 loss at the hands of Deshaun Watson and company. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady passed for 326 yards and three touchdowns with an interception but he took 47 passes to get those digits. It was far from a smooth performance for Brady and the Pats’ offense which will have to adjust and recalibrate heading into a showdown with the Chiefs’ defense that is starting to find its identity. Speaking of defense, the Patriots failed to contain Houston’s attack, but it remains an imposing unit. After all, the Patriots are still No. 1 in the NFL with a defense that allows just 12.1 points per game and No. 2 with 258.0 total yards surrendered per contest. The Patriots have a dangerous pass rush that has already collected 40 sacks on the season, three were done in the Houston game.
The Patriots are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games. The under is 7-3 also in those games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chiefs win, 24-22.
