Betting on the New York Giants (3-11)

Eli Manning got his farewell start in front of Giants fans at home in last Sunday,s 36-20 win over the Miami Dolphins. Manning went 20 for 28 for 283 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns against three interceptions. It might be safe to say at this point that Manning has played his last game as a Giant. The team can make a quarterback switch this week with Daniel Jones rejoining the team in practice after missing a couple of games due to an ankle issue. Nothing is certain as of this writing with regards to the starting quarterback for the Giants against the Redskins. If anything, Jones passed for 225 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions on 23-of-31 completions in a 24-3 home win over the Redskins back in Week 4. Running back Saquon Barkley was out in that game with a high ankle sprain. Barkley is healthy now, though, and will be a major threat to the Redskins’ defense that is ranked just 28th in the NFL against the run. Barkley had 112 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Dolphins.

The Giants are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four games.

Betting on the Washington Redskins (3-11)

Although the Redskins lost to the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday, 37-27, they must still be at least a bit happy over what they saw from rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins in that game. Haskins went 19 for 28 for 261 passing yards and two touchdowns without an interception. He was also not sacked. Haskins has a long way to go before becoming full entrusted with the Redskins’ offense, but it’s good for Washington to see him making strides. While Haskins is in incubation, expect Washington to run the ball more. That was missing, though, in their first meeting with the Giants, as the Redskins only had 55 rushing yards on 17 carries in that game. An x-factor for the Redskins in the rematch with the Giants is wide receiver Terry McLaurin. The rookie wideout, who is also Haskins’ teammate back at Ohio State, is Washington’s best downfield weapon. He missed the first game against the Giants with a hamstring injury, but is now 100 percent healthy. McLaurin had 130 receiving yards and a touchdown on five catches against the Eagles.

Writer’s Prediction

The Redskins win, 17-16.
