Betting on the Boston Celtics (-3.5)
Regular Season Record: 48-24
Jayson Tatum was not going to let the Celtics leave Disney World after just five games in the conference finals, as he scored 31 points to lead Boston to a 121-108 win in Game 5. Tatum shot just 8-of-22 from the field and 3-of-10 from deep, but his aggressiveness obviously paid off. Meanwhile, Jaylen Brown scored 28 points and Daniel Theiss provided 15 points and 13 rebounds. The Celtics shot just 45.2 percent from the field, but cut down on their turnovers. From 19 errors in Game 4, the Celtics turned the ball over just 11 times. Also, Boston outrebounded Miami, 50-38, with Theiss giving it his all to contain Bam Adebayo from dominating the glass. It’s important for the Celtics to get a performance from Theiss like the one he had in Game 5, as his effort in doing the dirty job fuels Boston’s offense.
The Celtics are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games as the road team.
Betting on the Miami Heat (3.5)
Regular Season Record: 44-29
Closing out a series is hard, as the Heat found out in Game 5. But they should still be fine, as they practically hold a “double break point” at this point in the series. The Heat didn’t get the usual dominant performance from Adebayo in Game 5, thought the big man still put up 13 points to go along with eight rebounds and eight assists. The Heat simply didn’t do a good job of consistently making their baskets, especially from deep. They shot 45.3 percent from the field and just 19.4 percent from behind the arc. Duncan Robinson bounced back from a salty Game 4 and scored 20 points in Game 5, but was just 3-of-11 on his 3-point attempts. The Heat have not shot better than 32 percent from long range since Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals, but that could also mean they’re about to break out this Saturday. Back in the regular season, the Heat sank 37.9 percent of their 3-point shots, with Robinson hitting 44.6 percent of his.
The over is 3-0 in the Heat’s last three games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
The Heat win, 107-105.
