Kyler Murray has been amazing this season overall, Week 3’s 26-23 home loss to the Detroit Lions showed that he is very much susceptible to bad games. Murray passed for 270 yards (23/35) and two touchdowns but threw three back-breaking picks. Murray has plenty of days to regain his footing and prepare for a matchup with the Panthers, whose pass defense isn’t really their forte. Carolina just let rookie Justin Herbert carve them up for 330 passing yards last week. In addition, the Panthers’ defense is often broken in third downs. In fact, Carolina is second-worst in the league in opponents’ third-down conversion percentage (56.76). That kind of defense could give Arizona extended control of the ball in this Week 4 match. Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is coming off a huge 137 receiving yard-performance in the loss to Detroit, while Andy Isabella will look to pick up where he left off. He had two touchdown grabs against Detroit.
The Cardinals are 7-1-2 against the spread in their last 10 road games.
Betting on the Carolina Panthers (+3.5)
Regular Season Record: 1-2
Although Carolina’s defense is having its own share of problems, the team’s 21-16 road win over the LA Chargers last Sunday provided much-needed hope for the Panthers’ stop unit. The Panthers forced the Chargers to commit four turnovers, which came in the form of an interception and four lost fumbles. Carolina is going to need its defense continue making heads-up plays, as the offense is still without its most important player in running back Christian McCaffrey, who’s dealing with an injury. In lieu of McCaffrey, the Panthers are depending on Mike Davis to lead the backfield in the rushing attack. Davis had 46 rushing yards on 13 carries and added 45 receiving yards and a touchdown on eight catches against LA. Carolina’s defense can spark the team again this week, as Arizona is a turnover-prone team that ranks third in interceptions thrown percentage (4.42), with Murray getting picked five times, so far this season.
The over is 7-3 in the Panthers’ last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Panthers win, 24-21.
