In Zach Wilson, BYU trusts. The junior quarterback has BYU starting the season like a house on fire, as the school has garnered four wins in a row against zero losses. In its last outing, BYU scored a 27-70 home win over the UTSA Roadrunners. Wilson dissected the Roadrunners’ defense for 292 passing yards and two touchdowns on 22-of-30 completions. Wilson has been very accurate with this throws. In fact, he is leading the entire nation with an 81.2 pass completion percentage. On the season, Wilson has 1,241 passing yards and eight touchdowns against just an interception. Because of Wilson, BYU is now fifth in the nation with an average of 43.8 points per game. It’s also had a great effect on BYU’s defense, as opposing offenses are not getting much time to get on the field. BYU, which is allowing just 11.0 points per game, are converting over 51 percent of their third-down plays and nearly 45 percent of fourth-downs.
BYU is 3-0 against the spread (ATS) in its last three games.
Betting on the Houston Cougars (+4.5)
Record: 1-0 Overall / 1-0 Conference
The long wait to play its opener was all worth it for Houston, which debuted this season with a 49-31 win over the Tulane Green Wave at home last week. The formula to success in that game was simple for Houston: get wide receiver Marquez Stevenson the ball. Stevenson balled out against Tulane, as he finished with 118 receiving yards and a touchdown on just five receptions. He is a big play waiting to happen, so expect quarterback Clayton Tune to keep looking for him downfield. Tune went 20-of-33 for 319 passing yards and two touchdowns. Tune also threw for two interceptions, which were two of Houston’s five turnovers. Perhaps the carelessness was partly due to the long layoff, but Houston will have to clean up on its errors to beat BYU, which has been incredibly great at converting possessions into points.
The over is 3-0 in Houston’s last three games as the home team, dating back to 2019.
Writer’s Prediction
BYU wins, 37-27.
