Betting on the New York Giants (odds)
Regular Season Record: 1-6
The Giants are not helping their fans feel better during these challenging times, as they once again lost Monday night, falling prey to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home, 25-23. However, they managed to hang around in that game, longer than what most people expected them to. The Giants even covered the spread as 13-point home underdogs. That’s now the fourth time in the last five games that they have covered the spread and second in a row. Daniel Jones repeatedly hurt his team’s chances of beating Tom Brady and the Bucs, as he committed two turnovers off of interceptions. He finished the game with 256 passing yards (25/41) and 256 passing yards while getting clobbered three times for a loss of 18 yards. The Giants’ defense was better, though, as it held the Bucs down to just 344 total yards and only 81 rushing yards (3.4 per carry). New York also limited Tampa Bay to only 4-of-12 on third downs. That’s the same defensive formula that the Giants will look to repeat in the rematch with Washington, which they beat at home in Week 6, 20-19, when they forced QB Kyle Allen to commit two turnovers (interception and fumble) and sacked him three times. The Giants also surrendered just 3.6 rushing yards per game in that game.
The under is 3-2 in the Giants’ last five games overall.
Betting on the Washington Football Team (odds)
Regular Season Record: 2-5
Washington is well-rested, as it is coming off a bye. Plus, the Football Team are feeling better about themselves heading into this game against the Giants the last time out, since they are coming off a win, which was a 25-3 annihilation of the Dallas Cowboys. That must really, really feel good for Washington. In that game, Antonio Gibson put up his best performance of his young NFL career, as he rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Gibson should lead Washington’s ground attack this time around against New York. In the previous meeting with the Giants, Washington let JD McKissic get eight touches out of the backfield to Gibson’s nine. With Gibson seemingly improving, there will be less pressure on Kyle Allen, who went 15-of-25 for 194 passing yards and two touchdowns without an interception against the Cowboys. On defense, Washington can expect to record at leats one turnover on Sunday because if there’s one sure thing about Daniel Jones, it’s that he will turn the ball over at least once in a game.
Washington, which is 13th in the league with 1.3 takeaways per contest, is 2-0-1 against the spread in its last three games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Washington wins, 23-17.
