Betting on the Clemson Tigers (-10)

Record: 9-1 Overall / 8-1 Conference

Clemson is finally going to get its chance to beat the Fighting Irish with Trevor Lawrence under center this season. It could be remembered that the Tigers didn’t have Lawrence when they suffered a 47-40 overtime loss to Notre Dame on the road back in November. Instead, they gave the ball to freshman D.J. Uiagalelei, who didn’t look bad at all in that game. Uiagalelei passed for 439 yards and two touchdowns without an interception on 29-of-44 completions in that game. Seeing that Uiagalelei was able to put together such a performance, Clemson must be confident in Lawrence’s ability to break down Notre Dame’s defense in the ACC title game. However, the Tigers need running back Travis Etienne to show up with much better performance than when he was held to only 28 rushing yards in the loss to the Fighting Irish. The defense should also be better this time around for Clemson, which will have defensive players Tyler Davis and James Skalski expected to play on Saturday. The two, along with Lawrence, were absent on the first date with Notre Dame.

The over is 5-1 in Clemson’s last six games overall.

Betting on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+10)

Record: 10-0 Overall / 9-0 Conference

Notre Dame will enter Saturday’s ACC Championship Game with zero losses. In their last game, the Fighting Irish defeated the Syracuse Orange at home, 45-21. Prior to that, they silenced the North Carolina Tar Heels on the road to the tune of a 31-17 score. Quarterback Ian Book has been steady under center for Notre Dame for most of the season. He has 2,382 passing yards and 15 touchdowns against just two interceptions this year. He’s also rushed for 465 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. He had his way against Clemson’s defense in November, as Book passed for 310 yards and a touchdown on 22-of-39 completions and also rushed for 67 yards on 14 carries. Running back Kyren Williams was also a problem for Clemson in that game, as he racked up 140 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries. Still, the biggest key for Notre Dame in this rematch will be its defense that is 12th in the nation with 17.1 points allowed per contest and seventh overall against the run. The Fighting Irish have what it takes to take Etienne out of the picture again, with their defense that is giving up just 99.7 rushing yards per game.

Notre Dame is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Clemson wins, 40-37.
