TV Broadcast: ESPN 3

Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (odds)

Record: 14-6 Overall / 6-5 Conference

The Red Raiders got downed by the West Virginia Mountaineers last Tuesday, 82-71, which stopped their three-game unbeaten run. Mac McClung led the Red Raiders with 17 points, while Terrance Shannon Jr. came off the bench and scored 13 points, but their efforts were not enough to get past the Mountaineers. Texas Tech managed to force West Virginia into committing 15 turnovers, which at least showed that the Red Raiders are still like sauce on spaghetti defensively. The Red Raiders are 13th in the league in forcing turnovers, as teams are averaging 16.9 turnovers per game. Texas Tech is 21st in the nation with 62.7 points allowed per game and 10th with only 21.2 field goals made surrendered per contest. Texas Tech should find it easier to contain TCU’s offense than in the West Virginia game, as the Horned Frogs are only 194th overall with 69.8 points per game average.

Texas Tech is 3-2 against the spread in its last five road games.

Betting on the TCU Horned Frogs (odds)

Record: 11-7 Overall / 4-5 Conference

TCU is having some sort of resurgence. After losing five games in a row against top competition, the Horned Frogs have stitched together back-to-back wins over the Oklahoma State Cowboys (81-78) and the Iowa State Cyclones (79-76), both at home. However, that pair of wins were just against sub-40 NET rankings teams. (Iowa State is only 231st in the NET rankings.) Nevertheless, TCU will come into the Texas Tech game with momentum. Over their last three games, the Horned Frogs have averaged 86.0 points on 47.7 percent shooting from the field, both significantly better than their season numbers in those respective areas.

The Horned Frogs defeated the Red Raiders at home last year and covered as 2.5-point underdogs, 65-54.

TCU, which will face the Texas Longhorns first this coming Saturday on the road, has gone 3-1 against the spread in its last four games, with the total hitting the over in three of those contests.

Writer’s Prediction

Texas Tech wins, 77-63.
