Betting on the Loyola Marymount Lions (odds)
Record: 12-7 Overall / 7-4 Conference
Loyola Marymount is coming off an 81-74 road win against the Pepperdine Waves last Thursday to give the Lions some semblance of momentum going into their last game of the regular season in Spokane. Speaking of which, the Lions have covered the spread in their last two games against Gonzaga as the road team. In February of 2020, Loyola Marymount lost to the Bulldogs on the road, 85-67 as a 25.5-point visiting underdogs. Keli Leaupepe led Loyola Marymount in the Pepperdine game with 17 points and eight rebounds, while three other Lions starters scored in double figures. Loyola Marymount is the WCC’s best offensive rebounding team, as the Lions are averaging 9.3 offensive rebounds per game. That aggressiveness on the offensive glass will help Loyola Marymount limit the touches of Gonzaga.
Loyola Marymount, which is averaging 70.7 points per game, is 4-0 straight up and against the spread in its last contests away from home.
Betting on the Gonzaga Bulldogs (odds)
Record: 23-0 Overall / 14-0 Conference
Gonzaga got a surprise challenge from the Santa Clara Broncos last Thursday but pulled off an 89-75 home win nonetheless to preserve the Bulldogs’ immaculate record this season. The Bulldogs entered that game as 31-point home favorites but even found themselves trailing early in the game. But as expected, the Bulldogs’ depth and juggernaut offense prevailed, with Jalen Suggs nearly producing a triple-double performance. A projected top-10 pick in this year’s NBA Draft, Suggs had 13 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists, while Corey Kispert led the way for Gonzaga with 25 points. Gonzaga shot 51.6 percent from the field against Santa Clara, the eighth game in a row in which the Bulldogs shot over 50 percent from the field. This season, Gonzaga is tops in the nation with 93.2 points per game on 55.2 percent shooting from the field, also No. 1 overall.
Gonzaga is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Gonzaga wins, 93-65.
